to characterize the LED and the photodetector to make sure that they work
and to characterize the communications channel (PDF, 124k)
-
- NOTE: Every lab group MUST do either Design Lab 1 or Design Lab 2, but NOT
both.

Lab Extra Credit assignments
- NOTES:
- These assignments are purely optional and can be used to directly supplement
your course grade. They are NOT worth the same amount the amount of
extra credit will depend upon the quality and quantity of the work done.
Not all components for these labs are stocked in the instrument room. You may
need to obtain special components from electronic stores or other sources.
- Curve Tracer Design and build
a circuit which will display transistor and diode characteristic curves
on an oscilloscope.
- Digital Voltmeter This
is a challenging lab which converts analog voltages into pulses which can
be recognized by appropriate digital circuitry.
More Extra Credit Assignments
- MOSFET digital logic - Problems 6.35, 6.51)
- Tube amplifier design You may do
any and all problems beyond 5.9 (pdf, 3.5 MB)
PSpice Extra Credit Assignments
Read the appropriate reference material. Note that the reference
material uses the older text version of PSpice and NOT the schematic entry
version which you are using.
Detailed assignments (NOTE: OpAmp macromodels are discussed in Section 2.9
of Hambley):
